BANDI  Achieves AiP from DNV and BV for 22MW-Class Floating Offshore Wind Substructure

As the outcome of the national R&D project "Development of Innovative LCOE-Reducing Substructure Design Technology for 20MW+ Class Ultra-Large Floating Offshore Wind Turbines," supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP), with BANDI serving as the lead research institution, our 22MW-class floating offshore wind platform design has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from two leading global classification societies, DNV (Norway) and Bureau Veritas (France). AiP is a process that verifies whether a new design concept complies with international rules and technical standards, and this approval formally confirms the technical validity of the platform's basic design following rigorous review by world-class classification societies.

The platform was designed to ensure structural stability in water depths of 150 meters, reflecting conditions in the East Sea of Korea, and was developed to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) by approximately 20% compared to conventional models. Since launching the project in April 2023, we obtained a related patent in February 2025 and, in September of the same year, conducted wave basin model tests at a 1:49 scale at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO), achieving this milestone through step-by-step technical validation.

Led by Bandi Consultants, the project was carried out in collaboration with Daewoo E&C, POSCO, Marine Tech In, Inha University, the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT), and the Korean Register (KR) as co-research institutions, with Kiswire, POSCO E&C, and Korea East-West Power participating as demand-side partners.

With approval from both classification societies, Bandi Consultants has secured internationally validated core technology for the design of substructures for ultra-large floating offshore wind turbines of 20MW and above. Building on the design expertise and technical capabilities gained through this project, we will pursue expansion into demonstration and commercialization, actively participate in floating offshore wind projects in Korea and abroad, and contribute to strengthening the technological self-reliance and competitiveness of Korea's offshore wind industry.
