The New Sotra Bridge is a suspension bridge with 960m long that crosses the sea among four-lane roads with a total length of 10km, connecting Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, with the nearby Oegarden. The suspension bridge connects Knarrvik in the west to Drotningsvik in the east, providing a four-lane road as well as pedestrian and bicycle lanes. The bridge will be placed in parallel alongside the existing old Sotra Bridge (suspension bridge) and will help alleviate Bergen's extreme traffic congestion.
The structural feature of the bridge is the single-span suspension bridge with a main span of 611 meter and a width of 29.3 meter. The stiffening girder of the main span was planned as a streamlined steel box girder, and the approach bridge was planned as a PSC box girder bridge supported by concrete piers.
The approach bridge connects to the tunnel at the Drotningsvik end. The towers were designed with concrete towers, the main cables were designed with prefabricated parallel wire strands (PPWS), and the hangers were locked-coils with HDPE.
The design of the bridge is being carried out by a Norwegian consulting firm, and the construction engineering is being carried out by BANDI and Envico consultants from South Korea. We are providing engineering consulting services for the construction of the tower and steel deck of the New Sotra Bridge, which started in September 2022 and run through May 2025.
Construction engineering for tower is classified into tower construction stage analysis, foundation caisson lifting design, temporary member design such as tower temporary strut, erection planning of tower, and geometry control of tower.
Construction engineering for steel deck is classified into structural analysis such as permanent state analysis and construction stage analysis, planning of erection equipment such as lifting gantry and floating crane, erection planning of steel deck, and design of temporary member.
